The beginning of want.
I’m not sure when I started to like, no love, Airstream trailers. Well, yes, I actually do know when – or sort of. I read an article about Sean Penn in a magazine a long time ago about when he lived on his property after the fire of his house in an Airstream. There was a photo of him on a lawn chair outside the trailer. That’s all it took for me. I loved the simplicity of it. The, yeah, that’s all I need is this little space – and besides that I can go to other places and park it and live whereever I want.
My friend and I have been looking at Airstreams for about 7 years now. We have yet to purchase due to one circumstance or the other but we still look.
The eBay tease
Partner is now becoming a semi-expert on the product and from time to time shows me one he’s found on eBay and I get all excited. He then says the timing isn’t right, we don’t have the right kind of vehicle to tow it or asks if I’d rather have a camper and put it on the back of a truck then we can go more places. NO – I want an Airstream! An vintage trailer that is in good condition, that can be renovated, that we can use at a moments notice to go camping. Not too much to ask – politely, that is.
There are all sorts of interested events Airstream owners participate in. Have a look at the Wally Byam Caravan Club – http://www.wbcci.org/. Serious Airstreamers – these folks.
Here’s what Wally Byam has to say about the Airstream experience – “To strive endlessly to stir the venturesome spirit that moves you to follow a rainbow to its end… and thus make your travel dreams come true.”
I’m with you Wally!
